Teaching toddlers
need patience, stamina and ability to survive with inadequate or no sleep at all. Teaching toddlers are never easy and the toddler years consist of the best of times and the worst of times. However, a child’s personality is clearly shown. Knowing what makes him ticks therefore creates an easier way of teaching toddlers. Here are some of the negative factors to take note of when teaching toddlers:

      1. Toddlers are highly volatile. Being too young to cope with strong emotions,
mood swings are therefore occasionally expected.
      2. Toddlers are highly impulsive too. They prefer to act without thinking.
Hence, keep a close look-out, teaching toddlers the cons of it.
      3. Toddlers time can be fast or slow, depending on the situation. Be extremely
patient when toddlers complete tasks given at their own speed because you will
end up frustrating yourself and him.
      4. Toddlers have a limited attention span. Therefore, teaching toddlers
progresses gradually and it cannot be achieved overnight.
      5. Toddlers are highly egocentric. Being young, they have not yet learned how
to take other peoples’ thoughts and feelings into consideration, thus unable to
understand the stress in which parents or you that are undergoing through the
          process of teaching toddlers.

However, on the bright side, toddlers have a passion for learning which is helpful when teaching toddlers.

Toddler’s development
Do not be worried if the child is making slow progresses in learning to walk or talk etc. Every child has an inner timetable for growth. Thus, be patient when it comes to potty training or teaching toddlers to talk. However,do not bombard him with flash cards at every turn or painstakingly program every minute of the toddler’s day to maximize the number of learning opportunities. A more sensible approach to teaching toddlers would be looking for natural opportunities to incorporate learning into the child’s day.

Here are some tips on promoting healthy development of the child:

1.   Taps into the toddler’s interests. Find out the activities, games and toys
that fascinate him and use them to teach him colours or how to read etc.
     2.   Be encouraging and supportive when he is handling a new given task.
Praise him even if he does not product stellar results.
     3.
Only step in if his frustration level is building to the point where he is
            likely to experience a meltdown
. Otherwise, give him time to figure things
out and that this much frustration would not magically allow him to complete
            a particular task any sooner.
     4.    Allow repetition. Practice makes perfect, so allow the child to do the same
            task all over again.

All in all, a great amount of patience and understanding is needed when teaching toddlers. It is exhausting when it comes to coping with the toddlers’ mood swings and tantrums, but this process of teaching toddlers gets easier as they grow older.
